"Copying what everybody else in hip hop is doing" I don't hear anybody that sounds like this, you ****ing crazy? This isn't laced in auto tune.

I was listening to the album last night when the concept finally clicked with me with the last song. There is a concept, not as strong as in previous work, but it's definitely there.

Man that ****ing part where the dude calls him to ask him to pray for him over his nephew(?) getting shot and he's tells him that if it were his daughter or son he would be out for blood and trying to kill them then he hangs up telling him he has to do this convention. That **** was deep. Like, everybody putting him on this pedestal like he's some kind of saint when he's just as flawed and sinful as the rest of us. And you keep hearing the "nobody prays for me" that adds to it. That verse is prime Kendrick Lamar.

And I think God is supposed to be the part where he accepts his flaws and lets go of his fears because he's only mortal.

And it all ties into how none of this would exist or happen if that guy from TDE would have killed his dad. It was one simple thing that could have changed everything. I think that's why it's called damn because that revelation makes you think that.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

I feel as though this is his least poppy album he's ever done. I mean, let's not pretend Kendrick was never poppy in the first place. And there is nothing wrong with being poppy at all.

I don't think it's as powerful as his last 3 albums, but it's definitely not a terrible album or a miss step, or him burning out. It's a great project that I enjoyed. And not because of the hype because the hype usually leaves me disappointed. Like that new Twiztid album. That was a complete disappointment.

His flow is ultra conventional on this one. Doesn't take auto tune to be acting mainstream, gramps.

Oh, using that trap flow, I can get how that's kind of riding a trend, but the trap flow is dope. Plus, it came from the underground.

I thought his flow was off on this album but the song structure and production made me ignore that.

Nothing more underground than taking advantage of an underground sound that became mainstream five years ago.

My point being that how popular a simple technique is shouldn't be a measuring stick on how terrible it is. Like **** for what it is not it's popularity status. Generic back packer flows are the easiest and most basic **** out there that every rapper has done. Nobody calling Aesop Rock poppy because of that.

You might have a point if you weren't defending an album of dull beats, cliched flow, and embarrassing hooks. I also never said anything about how popular it was (and **** off before you give me the rant about how popularity and pop sound are related--you know that by poppy I mean "sacrificing artistic integrity in the name of appealing to the lowest common denominator").

I also never got around to the lyrical content of the record because of the lame music distracts me from the lyrics.

I liked the beats, they didn't bore me. Hell, you like Death Grips, boring ass printer noise to me most the time.

What isn't cliche at this point? Calling **** cliche is cliche. It's like the easiest cop out. And, again, most rappers I know you listen to use cliche flows.

I didn't find the hooks embarrassing. I thought they were dope.

You actually did. Using "conventional" and "mainstream" to describe his flow. Which implies *gasp* that you hate it because it's popular. And poppy means *gasp* popular. and your little pseudo definition is just a pretentious way of saying that you dislike it because it's popular. Anytime somebody jumps on a band wagon it's always "they are sacrificing their integrity!" like you understand their integrity. It's pretentious douches that are ironically trying to tell artists what art should be. Kendrick Lamar probably did exactly what he wanted to do as an artist. And to me, somebody who listens to both sides of the hip hop spectrum because I don't bias my ears, this **** is unconventional and weird. Other than the flow, which hasn't changed much from any of his albums, I don't hear much **** like this anywhere.

Oh my Satan, I think I'm becoming one of those annoying Kendrick Lamar fans that can't handle opinions.

Edit: I get what you're saying I just disagree, I guess I'm just a little over defensive tonight.
