Ska definitely. Also uptempo late 1960s reggae (sometimes called 'skinhead reggae'), some of which sounds quite a lot like ska. I find roots reggae too slow (though I like some of it). Also like some early 1990s ragga.

Ska, Reggae, Rocksteady, Dub.
Love most of it I guess.
But I think I play ska mostly. Not just uptempo ska, mainly Slackers, Skatalites, Ska Flames. The lot.

Wow an old thread dragged kicking and screaming!

Ska was the original incarnation but it borrowed a lot from Soul and lacked identity at times. Reggae is where it's at for me. It really got an identity all of it's own.

Dub is a close second and is still in my eyes the most influential genre outside of America in terms of modern music.

As soon as ska or reggae gets too many soul influences, I ditch it.

It had too take influence from somewhere. A lot of roots reggae has deep soul roots even if they are not immediately evident.

Alton Ellis, Blues Busters to name just a couple were massively influenced by soul and It's a shame that you are not a big fan.

I remember u posting a while back about your lack of love for Soul music which is understandable but Soul permeates even today in the various genres of Reggae and the dirty skank of Toots or Burning Spear uses the rough edges of soul as a part of their music.

Soul music is not always sweet harmonies and love songs. Maybe a few soul albums need to be sent your way

I am very picky when it comes to reggae music.
I don't like it when it soudns rough, but I also don't like it when it sounds too smooth (too much 'ub40' sound, if you know what I mean).
