I'd say Nirvana are more likely to be better than GnR than greater.

Of couse the real question is why are all these acts white guitar bands when the 90s was the first time in history where white rock bands didn`t sell the most albums.

If we`re talking most important band of the 90s Massive Attack get my vote.

I think it was partly because the thread was about the best ROCK bands of the 90's. I'd agree that Massive Attack widened the landscape much more than these other bands (who, however well they did it, were still doing the same old one or two guitars, drums bass and vocals effort). Massive Attack certainly aren't a rock band, although I'm sure you weren't suggesting that anyway.

Wait a minute, its wasn't was it?! The thread was about 'Bands that were big in the 90s' while the poll was best Rock band of the 90s. Oh bugger, we were both lost.

I kind of disagree. The Smashing Pumpkins music (the instruments) rocked. Corgan's voice sounded somewhere inbetween nails being scratched down a blackboard and a small child doing a very large and painful dump, which tended to ruin things.
