hmm I only like one metal band and it's Metallica. They started really bad and even Dave Mustaine from Megadeth left them. But in the 90s they suddenly started to play very good music. Their best albums are Re-Load and St. Anger. They also invented that one can join together metal and classical music - first on the song Nothing Else Matters from weak album called simply Metallica, later on the record S&M. This idea was repeated by many bands after, including Therion and Dimmu Borgir (but Dimmu Borgir didn't include live violins). Even Celtic Frost was re-activated when they heard St. Anger and started to copy them. They are also famous for fighting with illegal music centre called Nipster.

I know this is old, but, CONGRATULATIONS! You just pointed out that Van Halen has a soft, radio friendly song!

So does Led Zeppelin!

YouTube - Going to California Led Zeppelin

See! I can judge a band by just one song too!

My tastes have changed a little since last time but here's a new list

1. Between the Buried and Me (still my number 1 and would be very hard for that to ever change)
2. Opeth
3. Isis
4. Pelican
5. Maylene & The Sons of Disaster
6. The Dillinger Escape Plan
7. Slayer
8. Baroness
9. Mastodon
10. too tough to decide got bands like Lamb of God, Dream Theater, Protest the Hero, Children of Bodom, The Black Dahlia Murder all tied right here
