i can admit ive only listened to a handful of songs and then took a dump on the cd and threw it away when his first cd came out. more of a testament to how awesome i still find the toxicity album tho. 10/10 for me

I just find the majority of songs on Toxicity, taken individually, is not bad. There are a few great moments, "Chop Suey" and "Aerials" are great singles. "Jet Pilot" is still one of my favorite songs by them. But apart from those tracks, I find the rest just tries to hard and the political messages are not that great, "Prison Song" to me is still more embarrassing to me, I will not claim to be a political major, but the content of that song just feels slapped together. It has those quirky moments. But as a whole, I find the album to drag more than anything. "Johnny" is on the Japanese version of the album, and I love that song too.

The first album to me was more fun, and remains that way. All the pieces fit and it all worked together. Beginning to end, I can go back to that one. While with "Toxicity" I find it to take itself too seriously, and it feels like it is trying to be quirky than before. As a follow up, I give it credit for injecting something new into the mix, but as a follow up, I find it not as good.

Maybe worst is unfair, "Steal this Album" was mixed, more of a b-side feel than a follow up. The next 2, had some dreadful moments, and got more stupid. But it had some god songs sprinkled. Maybe not as bad as those, but on the whole, I find I listen to "Toxicity" least of all.

yes and no. i say that because i question their relevance. As you can see by my user name that i am a huge SOAD fan, but would their new album be just to appease their already fans? or could they TRULY benefit (new fans, new exposure, new opportunities, etc) from making a new album. i think even Serj's and Daron's solo efforts themselves already perpetuate the inevitability of what a new SOAD album would do, and that is just appeal to the fans.

it'd be like if Rage Against The Machine were to make a new album, are they relevant in a market where they wouldn't do well. if Rage and SOAD were brand new bands to come out in this era, they might be lucky to play bar shows. Same with Nirvana, and Pantera, they released GREAT albums, but what real good could come from them releasing new albums (i'm saying hypothetically of course).

but to me that's the genius of these bands, they are all great musicians, that released some amazing music, but to release a new album just to appease their fans… the question is why? when they could just do a reunion show every so often, make some money, and use it to further their own projects.

i realize that may sound pretty negative, and i will contradict myself by saying i would love to hear new music from these guys BUT, from their point of view, they probably don't see a real reason to do it. as a musician myself, the goal is always to move forward musically, creatively, and aesthetically.

i agree with Bubbles in the sense that you can't force them to reunite wthvr internal problems the band had is up to them to solve and figure out if they want to remain together.

To reunite just for the fans i don't think will create a genuine reason to remain together they'll just do it as fan service.
I like SOAD but i wouldn't want them to make music just to please fans if their heart is not in it.

Same goes for every band i like that broke up.

I love System Of A Down. Arguably the last TRULY great hard rock band of the last 15 years. Cut one on the first album 'Suite-Pee' is still my favorite song of theirs. Quintessential System...!

I've always found it odd how some fans refer to System as a hard rock band and yeah I know they have hard rock influences, but their hard rock sound is closer to experimental metal than outright hard rock, that's the way I see it anyway.

System is really difficult for me to categorize, so I just call them alternative metal and be done with it.
