Yeah, I also find that Yes have been wasting their talent for the past 25 years, mainly because they have been neglecting their instrumental abillities to go for a more accessible "pop" sound, which isn't their thing, and after a wave of mediocre albums like Talk and Open Your Eyes it's easy to assume that they have since learned their mistakes, Magnification is proof of this, so heres hoping their next album (which is apparrantly in the works) will have Yes returning to their Symphonic Prog roots.

Also a really good technical band that does great songs that are also really catchy is Into Eternity.

From a musicians stand point, I'll have to say simply no. It's all minor diatonic scales. Either A or D. And it's all based on the ATG style of playing music

IMO their most technical album is probably THRAK.. Primarly because of Tony Levin and Trey Gunn's extensive use of Chapman Stick and Warr Guitar, which are extremely difficult instruments to play, mainly because they fill in many different roles at once.
