I really think that covering another band's song is basically a show of appreciation for the original artist.
HOW many bands have covered Bob Dylan's songs? It's practically uncountable. It's further proof of what an awesome song-writer he is!
I personally think that Gn'R's cover of Knockin' On Heaven's Door is one of the all-time best covers. EVER.

Personally I think covering a Bob Dylan song is a cake walk. His arrangements aren't ever really complex save for a few albums, and he doesn't sing well (even if I like his voice, he still doesn't). I'd say the only time people run aground in covering him is when they don't realize his voice is part of the setting, i.e. Joan Osbourne covering "Long Black Coat" or whatever that atual title is.

I don't love Bob Dylan's voice at all, now you've brought it up and I think about it... I can just about handle Blowin' In The Wind, but really, all my love for him goes to the songs he writes, not the way he sings them.

well I just happen to listen to non-traditional voices on the whole, so he's par for the course, but sometimes that untrained man-of-the-railways voice IS the song.

I really dig Dylans voice but technically it's fucking dreadful. It was bad to begin with and it's shot to bits now.

And what a huge ****ing mistake it is to do a Christmas album...now that's the sign of a once great musician really hitting rock bottom and trying desperately to stay up =[

I don't think you'll find much love for Guns 'n Roses on these boards mate.

I didn't see it either. In fact I'm a bit surprised we have a thread about GnR that's this long.
