Definitely agreed there! It doesn't have a weak moment IMO and everything seems to fit, which is an unusual thing for a double album of its length... I listened to the whole thing in its entirety the other night and nearly two hours passed whilst listening... and I barely noticed, such was my engagement in the music!

As you say its outstanding from start to finish and displays the true creative brilliance of Billy Corgan. The other vital element is that of Jimmy Chamberlin on drums, for me one of the best drummers around, he displays a level of intense power on the drums that combines perfectly with the noise and melody of Coogan. And like many of the best drummers around comes from a jazz background.

I think Adore was a disappointing album due to Jimmy not being on it, made even worse by the fact that he was replaced by session men and drum machines.

If you`re a Billy Corgan fan, Ric Ocasek`s solo album "Troublizing" is a great listen as Billy Corgan`s influence and participation is all over the album, came out a year or two after Mellon Collie........

You could actually argue that its one of the very best doubles ever for its consistency, because when you compare it to the competition "The White Album" "Physical Graffiti" and "Electric Ladyland" etc All of these albums had their low points and experimental parts and at times this detracted from the brilliance of the album`s high points.

There's barely enough good material on that album to make a decent EP let alone a double album.

Out of interest, what would you consider to be a classic double album with a good degree of consistency throughout?

Strangely enough, I listened to that about 2 weeks ago and at the time thought this is definately not a double album that I would want to listen to again for quite some time, but then again I`m not a hardcore punk fan (even though this album incorporates other types of music)

Also, this is a 70 mins album as opposed to the 120 mins of Mellon Collie.

You`ve certainly given me some stuff here to mull over.

Bitches Brew:I`ve never heard this but reading about it..... f***k it sounds impressive.

London Calling: Hey!!! Another one of my favourite doubles and the pinnacle of the Clash`s career.

Tago Mago: I`ve not listened to anything by Can in years, so I`ll give it a listen.

Exile on Main Street: Problem with this, is that I was never a fan of the Stones but know the high esteem in which this album is held. I`ve got it, so I`ll give it another whirl.

Metal Box: Don`t know this but post punk are not musical circles I move in.
