Considering they formed in 1970 and released their first album in 1974 I think it would be a tad silly to call them NWOBHM when it was a late 70s/early 80s movement.

Would be more accurate to say that JP had a lot of albums and songs that were important to NWOBHM, and their early 80's stuff obviously did well alongside all of the newer bands.

Charles is correct though.

Yeah they're late enough to not be fathers of metal but early enough to be the NWOBHM's big brother whose little brothers were all trying to be just like their cool big bro.

Huh - I guess I always associated Priest with the likes of Maiden and other NWOBHM artists. I didn't really consider when they formed or what their style was early on. Maybe Im wrong on Priest.

But I wouldn't consider Pantera a glam metal band.

Jag Panzer's Ample Desruction is the perfect metal album. It's got the old school griminess, the songs bop, and the genres are perfectly balanced between thrash, power, and heavy metal.
