I have this theory that Vice City helped to make eighties metal popular again. When I went to military school if it wasn't Disturbed or Slipknot then nobody wanted to hear. Vice City was released while I was there and then I come back home and all of a sudden Motley Crue is like the biggest band on Earth and Iron Maiden is back on the radio. Was weird.

When I was eight years old my dad burned me a copy of Paranoid by Black Sabbath. Probably the single most influential band on my music tastes and still on of my favorites.

I had a lot of early metal influences, my parents were into that early 70s/late 60s rock/metal like Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Cream, etc. but what really got me into metal was being around my cousin. Buckethead, Faith No More, Tool, Primus, Mr. Bungle, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, etc.

Can't really think of just one artist or song that got me into metal or a single moment that I considered myself a metalhead.

> By 6th grade I got into radio rock like Nickelback, Daughtry, All American Rejects, Green Day, etc. But I gradually started craving more intense stuff.

> By 8th grade I was into hard rock and post-grunge like Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, and Seether.

> By my freshman and sophomore years of high school I was huge into bands like Metallica, System of a Down, KoRn and Avenged Sevenfold.

> I discovered the heavier metal genres during my junior year of high school via In Flames' album Colony and Come Clarity. I then became enthralled with melodic death metal, discovering bands like At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium and Scar Symmetry. Soon after I also discovered doom metal via Candlemass and the lighter forms of black metal via Agalloch and Cradle of Filth. I also got really into folk metal via Eluveitie and Wintersun. I was still 'scared' of the more extreme death and black metal.

> During my senior year of high school I started branching out and exploring all of the metal genres. I came to appreciate old school death metal, grindcore, "kvlt" black metal and super atmospheric stuff as well. I also delved into the discographies of a lot of the classic metal bands like Maiden, Slayer, Black Sabbath, etc.

> Now I am a sophomore in college and a full-fledged metalhead. My metal journey continues as I continue to listen to all the metal I can get my hands on!!!

Band, which got me into metal, was polish group Vader and of course Black Sabbath, but now I'm listening heavy metal bands like Judas Priest or Dio.

Yeah me too. Screaming is such a great album but the first one i remember playing to death was Unleashed in the East. And I was obsessed with sad wings of destiny for a long time. Still love that one. If i ever do a journal that would be on the list.

Funny you should mention Vader because I listen to the band their guitarist formed named UnSun. I also listen to another Polish band Votum.

I'm not really sure as to what metal bands I first started listening to. I'd most likely have to say Black Sabbath. They are a very inspiring band. I love playing Rhoads/Iommi riffs on guitar.

Default First metal band

Pantera is responsible for introducing my ears to the greatness of Metal. Saw them on the Reinventing The Steel tour and it was incredible. Miss those guys.
