Who will be seen as the defining rock artist of the 00's?

Necromancer is right about Nickelback... as long as we argue and have our own personal tastes too close to heart, the general (idiot) public will just go based on the numbers. Nickelback is the 2nd most selling non-American band of all time. Makes me sick to my stomach...

Just watch out for No Blitz for this decade...

I agree with this. Also, as far as mainstream goes, I'd add Paramore to the list.

Maroon 5: Adam Levine (I don't know how to spell his last name).

No question about it, Adam Levine and his crew have released many hit songs between 2000-2013. They have a lot of tracks on the radio; everybody knows them. Adam Levine is an excellent judge on The Voice. He uses constructive criticism and he applies motivational techniques.

Foo Fighters or Queens of the Stone Age for me ... I'm not really a fan of either however between David Grohl and Josh Homme they have consistently remained a force and seem to keep getting better ... Especially if you take into consideration all the Side projects ... Jack White would join them two fellas as Rocks modern day holy Trinity

Like The Killers. They have reached mainstream success, and still kick in this decade.

I'm not a fan myself, neither they're my favourite band, but I like them, and many people who are not rock fans, like my friends have heard about them and like them as well.

I have a theory, what's left of the glory rock had can be found in this decade in Alternative Rock and Indie Rock, songs from those genres are big hits nowadays, like heavy metal and classic rock songs were in past times.

So, an artist belonging to those genres should be the defining artist of Rock

I nominate Arcade Fire, but they haven't really reached mainstream success worldwide, they have gotten more popular though.

Guys - are you talking influence, or popularity? I don't think Foo Fighters fit in here. They're Nickelback, but more acceptable. Also, they borrowed a thing or who from Nirvana. I don't find Maroon 5 really influential, either. They have a lot of hits, but nothing groundbreaking, earth-shattering new stuff. Just stuff.
