So to wrap up this thread, music is subjective until the point where enough information has been collected on it and it becomes objectively good or bad

Nah, some music is objectively just bad or worse than others based on legitimate qualities/measures on display. Just like I can say "Lionel Messi is better than Clint Dempsey". That isn't an opinion, it's a fact. Does that mean Dempsey can't be your favourite footballer? Nope, think what you want.

Who decides the guild lines for the qualities though?

I could understand in your analogy if you are basing them on stats because that's something concrete to work off of.

Like I said, you can enjoy what you want for whatever reason, but nobody will ever be able to tell me that Kind of Blue isn't legitimately better than some Kenny G bullshit.

the bolded statement makes it subjective. I agree with you but you just made a case for subjectivity.

Also honestly, I've never heard kind of blue but I'm listening to it right now.

Good job correcting that mistake!

If you haven't heard them, you should check out other Miles stuff like "On the Corner", and "Sketches of Spain". Check out John Coltranes stuff if you dig Miles.

Goof, I love yeh, but you're starting to sound like you don't know what the word "objective" means.

I am not getting my point across well. I am saying there is such a thing as "better" music, but clearly everyone can have their opinions on what they like.

Aesop Rock is a better rapper than Kanye West - for example - but that doesn't mean you have to enjoy one or the other for that reason alone.

Okay, I get where you are going with this. You mean from a technical stand point.

So the greater the technicality the better the artist in your eyes.

I don't know if I agree with using that as a measurement for if an artist is better than another objectively.

Using that as a measurement would through most punk bands into the awful category and most prog bands would be classed as being better.
