Doesn't explain Def Leppard/grindcore tho
Maybe the guy was confused by this?

SoundClick artist: Ded Leppard - Grindcore with humour and gore topics, sometimes veering into other genres

Had to be because of Roadie, one of the alltime greatest movies in the history of mankind. Or not.

I saw a review of one of his albums (I think Rock And Roll Hero) that referred to his music as a "...blend of heavy metal and opera."

Then I would never pay any attention to that reviewer again. There isn't so much as a sub-particle of metal in his music. None.

I don't think there's much of any opera in there either. That reviewer sounds like a dumbass.

Oh, yeah, definitely a lot of Broadway in there. If there's any opera in his music it's coming second hand through the Broadway influence.
