Bob Seger got my vote for overall favorite through the years, with Steve Miller coming in a close second for his late 60's to mid 70's music.

I never knew that Boz Skaggs and Steve Miller went to school together, that's interesting.

I thought about adding Jackson Browne, J Giels Band and Boz Scaggs to the list but decided against it in the end. Most people are not familiar with some of the artists listed already so why add to the confusion. Maybe if the poll had been taken 20 years ago including Jackson Browne he would have possibly been one of the top picks.

I actually knew Schon was a former member but I didn't know there were others too.

I used to play that song with a friend of mine, Mike Doogan from the Doogan Bros Band who just passed recently, and never heard the original until quite a few years later after playing it numerous times. We did it quite differently but kept the same vibe, and still to this day is one of my favorite songs to play. Actually... I might be able to find a recording of it.

I had Seger in mind for my vote, but the sheer number of hits that Petty churned out, along with his quirky Dylan-esque style tipped the scales.

There's nothing wrong with that, I definitely prefer John Cougar over Bruce Springsteen. One of my favorite singles by Cougar is Cherry Bomb.

I am with you on that one. I voted for him also.

Moving out is so good.

I am going to try to see him while he has his residency at the Garden.

To be honest i know very little of the artists mentioned in the poll i know a few of them because they are pretty iconic Billy joel i know from that uptown girl song and from that song were he claims they didn't start the fire and Tom petty is free falling Tom petty right?

Bruce sprinsteen was born in the USA and that's literally all i know and where i stop caring all i know is the popular references attached to them.

Lol similar here. The only reason I know more songs from Billy Joel is because I downloaded one of his greatest hits comps but other than that. I don't know his individual albums.

Also you are correct on we didn't start the fire and uptown girl. Tom petty does have the free falling song and Bruce's song is correct.

Steve Miller will be touring in concert this year with Journey, it might be the last time we'll be able to catch him in concert. Miller is a good choice Lisnaholic, two of my favorite singles by Steve Miller is, In The Winter Time and Wild Mountain Honey.
Thanks Necromancer! Haven`t played any Steve Miller for ages and you`ve reminded me of how good he really is. Sounds like you like his mellower songs best, but I usually prefer the upbeat stuff; Fly like an Eagle, Joker, Jet Airliner, etc. Actually, the original Jet Airliner is excellent too. Have you heard it ?

Thanks everyone for participating in the poll survey. I'm actually a little surprised by the results so far.
^ Well, I guess that`s the most interesting kind of poll, isn`t it?
