Yeah, all good choices. More on the progressive side. Some jazz influences running through them as well.

Cynic are a band I would have recommended him. The follow-up to that album above is amazing as well. Their last few albums strike me more as Aeon Spoke using the Cynic name.

I must have wore out a copy of "War Master" in no time. "The IVth Crusade" is in my running for favorite albums too.

Yeah, The IVth Crusade is easily my favorite album of theirs.

ok i've listened to the next bundle you posted,
which was eternal dirge, grave miasma and trench rot.

Eternal dirge: Those poor girls gettin fisted by those guitarists, lol.
But actually the riffs were kinda good. Didn't like the voice tho

Grave Miasma: I like them. Very heavy, bit of punch in the face,
but still kinda melodic. There's actually some good stuff in this genre

Trench Rot: Very awesome riff.

I wound up liking this album a lot actually, has an old school sound with some more modern production values, which gives it an interesting feel. Has some Doom influences to it, can hear some influence from Autopsy here and there.

Loved their new album. I've been waiting a few years for their follow up to Nekropsalms. You should totally check that one out too. The new one has a more polished production, but on that album it just sounded so filthy. Took that kind of Obituary or Autopsy sound to the next level.

My friend on facebook just posted this song in a group I started there. I really dig this.

lo-fi sounding, some avant-garde elements that recall bands like Phlebotomized and Carbonized. Maybe even a little Immortalis in the mix. Not sure much else about them, but I am going to be checking this album out more in detail later, for sure.

I just realized a second thread for this was made, so I deleted my post from the old thread and am re-posting it here.

Death Metal is probably my second favourite major Metal sub-genre second only to Black Metal. Some of my favourite bands in the genre are Death, Atheist, Bolt Thrower, Wintersun, Gojira, Kalmah, Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility, Hypocrisy, Children of Bodom, Codex Alimentarius, and Opeth.

It wasn't until about four years ago when I could finally start to tolerate and eventually appreciate the vocal style, but I'm glad I stuck with it because it revealed to me a whole new great plain of music to discover, and helped with me later with getting into my favourite sub-genre of Metal, Black Metal.

I think I shall start making a list of some albums I really enjoy. So I am taking it to Rate Your Music, and will be adding more and more as I go.

Right now, it is in developmental stages. So not in order, not much said about any given album... just a list of albums I consider the best I have heard.

But check it out, suggest me some albums to add. Give input, whatever... let me know what you think of any of these albums...

I recognize most of the bands on the list, but can't say I've heard a lot by any of them.

If you haven't checked out the album "Realm of Chaos" by Bolt Thrower, I think you should give it a try, and maybe eventually add them to your list. It's a great Death Metal album, usually regarded as their best by BT's fans I've come across.

Also, the absence of Death (the band by that name) on your list is peculiar to me, but you said it was a rough list, so I'm hoping to see some Death on there sometime later.
