I'm kinda dubious tbh. Arkangel were definitely the high water mark. Not a lot of great production for those bands, and I suspect that a lot of it is reserved for actual early metalcore fans, but it's some good **** nonetheless...

It's clear how metalcore hasn't quite developed a full identity for itself yet. Much of this sounds very thrash, sometimes more like death metal. Some of the tracks also have typical 90's obscure dm production. Even so, there's some great riffs here and there, that have that heavy groove that I love about some deathcore and metalcore I've heard.

The first one on the list above - Lenght of Time - is actually pretty cool. I'm saving that one for later.

That's kind of what I love about a lot of that era of metalcore tbh. It's like a lost wave of next-era thrash that could have been if thrash had lasted past the early 90s, but with a simple directness from 90s hardcore that made it more brutal than 80s thrash. There's plenty of more experimental metalcore, but that kind of blue collar, in-your-face stuff wasn't trying to evolve too much, just trying to hit you in the face as hard as possible. But H8000 was still just a couple years ahead of the game, so it was a bit more influential than it was classic tbh.

I don't think anyone could have foreseen that metalcore would become this:

I'll take the old, rough edged stuff over that any day. Although I'm sure some good, very polished modern metalcore exists... somewhere.

It's definitely a weird phenomenon that such an arbitrary influence as Gothenburg melodic death metal effectively started a whole new genre that eventually lost almost all connections to early metalcore, while also giving the genre such a bad name that a lot of bands just fled from the name of "metalcore". There are a surprising amount of bands that still do the genre justice though.

Alright I promised but I been lazy, so let's just do this. Plenty of this I've already repped in other threads, but you all need this **** in your lives cause metalcore = life...

Brazilian **** cause apparently Brazil around the turn of the century was good ****...

Confronto sounds like Obituary went full hardcore. Debut full album especially.

Debut EP

Debut album, the most Obituary hardcore album ever.
https://confronto.bandcamp.com/album/causa-mortis

They've been releasing **** ever since and still rule, but their first EP and debut LP are their most devastating, but all their **** is good.

Poin of No Return are nice as **** beatdown metalcore who have both their albums for free on Bandcamp. Brazil like a mu****a.

https://xponrx.bandcamp.com/

*end Brazilian *****

I've only heard Incendiary's last album from 2017, but it's amazing. Metallic hardcore goodness, with a vocalist who sounds like the dude from Rage Against the Machine fronting the band he should have actually fronted. And he's fronting a metallic hardcore band with actual songs. You have no idea how many times I've blasted this **** over the past few weeks. This album is brilliant. Gonna put this album on Trollheart when he's looking for recs for March and just wait for him to **** on it.

My newest find that wrecks my ****. Slayer as **** hardcore that's a bit more thrash than you average modern metalcore album, but god damn does every song savage your attention. This **** has been on heavy rotation for two weeks. The last two albums have been from 2017, so just know that metalcore is still the ****ing ****.

And these dudes are a band I just mentioned but are sick as ****. Modern metallic hardcore in a way that isn't revolutionary, but which just really ****ing rules and destroys your ******* with a bit of extra death metal.

Yeah I know I haven't really been keeping any of this under wraps, but Jesus Christ has all of this been obliterating me for the last month straight and you all need to know.

Oh ****, ya'll! Look what got dropped in November without any of us poseurs knowing about it. Only an EP but five new Zao songs are more than welcome.

Lol they're back together? Aren't they the band with a member who went on to join Fallout Boy?
