When somebody told me that Death Angel should replace Anthrax in the 'big four' I was about to demand they recant, but then it occurred to me I'd never heard of the band before.

If Death Angel's other albums sound like this, they might have an argument... technical speed metal interspersed with ballads? How can someone not like this?

I used to love that album, but now it's just too tepid. All the other elements are fine ("Veil of Deception" is fantastic), but its metal moments are weak. It's all about that first album.

they don't all sound like that, in fact they used to a genuinely hardcore thrash band

and then made their way back

Theirs second is kind of a transition from the brutal thrash assault of the first to the technical and funky sound of the third. It's really great, much more varied then the first but still a lot of thrashing.

always been my favorite Death Angel album

I love Death Angel across the broad... excellent band ...amazing live as well.

And that Is an awesome Armored Saint album as well. Another underappreciated, great band.

Going on record to say the new Mamaleek is their sexiest

https://theflenser.bandcamp.com/album/via-dolorosa

They always did experimental black metal with electronic overtones but this one here breaks into some blackened lounge/jazz/bossa nova and it's all real choice

The Ultra Violence is one of my all-time favorite thrash albums, bought it without knowing anything about the band when it first came out and was blown-away - especially when I found out they were all around my age. Great, great album - Voracious Souls, Thrashers, Kill As One, the title track... need to go listen to that now that I think about it!

Between The Buried And Me has a new album (called Coma Ecliptic) & it's fantastic. Albeit they've changed quite drastically & their album definitely has patches of progressive rock scattered throughout; it's still a creative masterpiece that I can't get enough of. Definitely check it out.
