I'm digging Back To Times Of Splendor by Disillusion.

It's a masterpiece.

Tool - Aenima

I forgot how good this album was until it was brought up. Genuine metal album here.

They always did experimental black metal with electronic overtones but this one here breaks into some blackened lounge/jazz/bossa nova and it's all real choice
Just listened to this one again. Definitely some brilliant stuff.

Wow, early Cynic demos rule. All of them are awesome, but especially this one. It's a shame Paul couldn't keep doing the growls and had to settle with those weird vocorder effects.

Dude, I love those vocorder effects. They sound so sci-fi.

This album is very frustrating to rate. On a good day it's one of my favorite death metal albums, but on a bad day, it's close to unlistenable. On days like today though, when I was swamped with work, playing it at high volume is wonderfully cathartic.

Regular rotation this past couple of weeks has been:
Sacramentum "Far Away From The Sun" - I can get a solid dose of melodic BM from Dissection any time I like but for musical prowess I'd hit this record everytime. All that bleak atmosphere, balanced with haunting melody and some damn fine instrumentation to boot.
Satyricon "Dark Medieval Times" - just played it on YouTube once the other week and can't leave it alone now. Just get the impression they got that sound without having to really try as it all just fits together so well.
Lluvia "Premonicion De Guerra" - two lengthy, yet strong and mature sounding BM attacks. Tempered by some very thoughtful structures and well timed ambient passages.
