I'll tally this as one extra vote for Yes then, yes?

Alright then. Which ones out of these genre battles would you say you are at all interested in taking part in (not counting the current one of course)? For me, I think these would be the most immediately interesting:
Spoiler for genres:
Canterbury Scene
Experimental Rock
Folk Rock
Gothic Rock
Indie Rock
Krautrock
Pop Rock
Post-Punk
Power Pop
Proto-Punk
Psychedelic Rock
Shoegaze

...or maybe the wild card round. I submitted one of the albums for that one, but many of the other albums are interesting to me too.

I'm open to other suggestions if anybody has them, but I think we need to settle on the next genre to do within the next few days or it will delay the start of the battle too much.

Do Folk Rock, Power Pop, or Psychedelic Rock and I'm in. Some of the other genres sound interesting too, but I might add classic R&B (60s, 70s 80s) and New Wave as well.

Yeah, I'd be okay with Folk Rock, Gothic Rock, Pop Rock, Power Pop or maybe Psychopathic sorry Psychedelic Rock. Most of the rest would not interest me. But don't base the battle on just my participation. If others want a different battle I wouldn't be interested in, just do it and I'll sit that one out.

Correct, a vote for getting rid of Yes

As far is R&B is concerned, would that really be at home in a "Rock Album Survivor" thread? I think people originally didn't think to include it because I guess it doesn't fit neatly under the "rock" umbrella. At any rate I think doing a thing for R&B (as well as Soul) albums would be most appropriate for that specific sub-forum.
New Wave I believe has already been done sometime in the past.

OK, so far it's looking strong for Folk Rock, Power Pop and Psych, tho

The final period of votes for this battle has now concluded, and the winner is - In the Court of the Crimson King!

Results
1. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
2. Yes - Close to the Edge
3. Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte
4. Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed
5. Änglagård - Hybris
6. Electric Light Orchestra - Eldorado
7. Genesis - Foxtrot
8. Camel - Mirage
9. Gentle Giant - Octopus
10. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Now then, time do decide on the next battle. I'll exercise a bit of "editorial responsibility" and suggest that we do Folk Rock next. Among the genres that people have expressed an interest in, I think this one would make the best contrast with the genre we've just done. These are the albums for the Folk Rock battle:
Quote:
1. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
2. Joni Mitchell - Blue
3. Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
4. The Band - The Band
5. Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
6. The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers
7. Richard & Linda Thompson - I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight
8. Songs: Ohia - Didn't it Rain
9. Pentangle - Basket of Light
10. George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
If anybody has any issues with that list, let me know. And if someone really wants to do another genre instead of this one, feel free to pipe up, but if nobody else shows interest in whatever you suggest then we'll probably be doing the folk rock one. Anyone who's okay with doing folk rock: It would pe helpful if you could give an estimate of how long it would take you to listen to all the albums you haven't already heard and prepare your ranking to start voting off albums. That way I can set an appropriate deadline for the first round that everyone will be happy with, while also not delaying progress too much.

Furthermore, I figure it's about time to move this whole shebang to a new thread, so I will create one in a relatively short amount of time. It will be much more practical to be able to edit the OP to reflect the ongoing battle, and I'll also store the information about past and future battles on the first page of the thread for easy access. So keep your eyes out for that, because the announcement for the next battle will be posted in that thread, not this one.

Good list, GD, but I'd probably try to fit in the Beatles' Rubber Soul (replacing All Things Must Pass since George is an ex-Beatle) and REM's Murmur in there somewhere. Also, Sounds of Silence is probably more definitive of folk rock than Bridge Over Troubled Water, imo.

But yeah, it's a good list. Realistically I only really need to listen to two of these in its entirety and parts of three others. It shouldn't take longer than a couple days for me to rank this group realistically.

This should be fun
