I'd gladly accept a Crystal Viper song as a contender, but this would be my choice:

As long as it's Crystal Viper, I'm happy.

Sure, but by my contemporary idea of what sounds "metal", it hardly hits high on the scale. The 80's were where the aesthetics of metal were really expanded and defined more in depth.

Nah, it's pretty heavy m⌊∑10i=0icos110−11100⌋−⌈∫2π−2π3710dx⌉1⌊ln(100cothπ 5)√⌋−(sin2(x)+cos2(x))

I've always thought this song embodies everything Metal wants to be. Dark undertones in the lyrics, a powerful main riff, killer bridges, and that tremolo change up on the chug that smacks you in the back of the head like an old friend letting you know you just ****ed up.

Has public education really declined this far?

One of my favorite Faith No More songs, I always wished they had more like it.

And as far as creating the metal genre goes, this is the true beginning of the glory that is heavy metal:

It's got the darkness, energy, and heaviness, and two years before Sabbath.
