I think that album A Thousand Leaves would suit you well on the whole. It's among their spaciest offerings.

My top favorite is Murray Street though, which is definitely another good choice for that kind of stuff, although not as drawn out and krauty as a Thousand Leaves. Still has a good bit of low key acid numbers

and high key mostly instrumental post rocky guitar worship

Best Sonic Youth song is this imo

I'm incredibly far from having a solid opinion of the band on a track to track basis though. I can see their influence clear as day but they only rarely hit God status for me and when they do, it's usually as a part of the SYR series.

Anyway, this thread is a failure without any mention of Clutch who is clearly the defining rock band of this century.
