^ Well, that's pretty unconventional, and for me at least, playing it once or twice may prove sufficient. Listening to it I found myself becoming concerned about Thurston Moore's vocal chords, even though I know they are not remotely my business.

With good lyrics, it feels like the other way round: the rhyme occurs by happy coincidence as the writer works out his meaning. Does anyone else ever notice a distinction like that between lyrics? It probably suffers from following on from Sonic Youth, but overall I found this to be a pleasant but undistinguished record, even though, reffing an earlier G500 album, “Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore has cited Galaxie 500's album Today as "the guitar record of 1988". Perhaps Galaxie 500 have some better material elsewhere in their short discography.

Well, Luna was interesting, but not what I was expecting based on Galaxie 500, and Hanatarash's performance was kind of bewildering to me, so I'm not sorry to move on to....
Song #8: Garbage - Only Happy When It Rains (1995) ^ Best song title so far, and the only song of the nine that features a girl singer. Nice noisy guitars, which nonetheless pause long enough for the singer to deliver the title line, this seems like a very well-designed song with something for both pop and rock fans. I liked this song - especially the line that taunts the weather; "Pour your misery down on me." I hope I remember those words next time I'm enduring wet London.

More than the music, I'm curious about the Spanish band name and the fact that this song is about a Brit actor best know for his part in movies made in the sixties.  ^ Julie Christie and Tom Courteney in Billy Liar, made at a time when the Brit film industry was going through a minor renaissance with a handful of movies that had in common a kind of low-key down-to-earth realism. In retrospect, it was a commendable movement that took a serious look at adult life and its problems: from memory, other movies of the genre were Cathy Come Home, Room At The Top and This Sporting Life. But why are Yo La Tengo singing about actors from back then, I wonder ?

This one of my favorite moments in rock’n’roll history. What Daniel gifts them, lyrically and melodically is positively earth shattering. I’ve never managed to make it through this without crying. I’m very proud that I ordered those cassettes directly from Daniel way back when. His all-time ranking is FF15 putting him officially ahead of The Beach Boys and the Beatles as the greatest melody maker of all-time. Song fact: Notice the way Daniel emphasized the singular on neck when he sings “our neck” What we can ascertain from that is the Speeding Motorcycle lives inside of him as part of his spirit. You know the way someone like Hitler can make you feel ashamed to be a human being? Daniel makes me proud to be a human being. Daniel if you ever read this please know I love you so much your music is something that makes life worth living.
