Oh yeah, I vote to eliminate Chelsea Wolfe. Didn't realize y'all had this much love for the Joke. Or Night Time. I knew there was a reason I stuck around this place.

Between you and me, I had it rated second next to Nick Cave.

Indeed. I actually preferred The Cure early in the battle, but I changed my mind and moved them down my ranking, 'cause that KJ album is 40 mins of pretty much straight fire!

By the way, I can now confirm we'll be doing Power Pop next, so just wanted to check that the existing list is OK with everyone, before we lock it in and start listening:
Spoiler for Power Pop (next battle):
Power Pop

1. The Replacements - Tim
2. Weezer - Pinkerton
3. Big Star - 3rd
4. The Jam - All Mod Cons
5. Cheap Trick - At Budokan
6. Todd Rundgren - Something / Anything?
7. Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix
8. Squeeze - Argybargy
9. Badfinger - Straight Up
10. Supergrass - I Should Coco

Just a couple nits here. The Raspberries were arguably the first true power pop band to really make it on the charts (A lot of these bands, though deserving, aren't pure power pop in the classic sense). So maybe consider putting in the Raspberries self titled LP in place of the Jam, who are more of a punk/mod band really. Also, not as important, but maybe Radio City and #1 Record were more acclaimed than Big Star's 3rd but that's just my opinion.

I thought about pushing for the original power pop band (yes, the Beatles), but while the Stones may be under represented for example, the Beatles obviously aren't, so I'll be a good boy

I thought about the Hollies too, but honestly, I don't think they ever recorded what could be called a standout album; they were more of a singles band. So, yeah, they won't work here.

PS-I'm okay if you don't make any changes.

Power Pop is ok with me. The list looks good as it is.

The Gothic Rock battle has been one with close rounds most of the way, but ending on a landslide; so although it barely needs to be announced, Killing Joke's Night Time is the winner!

Results
10. The Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always
9. Fields of the Nephilim - Elizium
8. Swans - White Light from the Mouth of Infinity
7. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let Love In
6. Bauhaus - In the Flat Field
5. Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels
4. Siouxsie and the Banshees - Juju
3. The Cure - Disintegration
2. Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss
1. Killing Joke - Night Time

Next battle will be posted soon, just a few small things to clear up first

I don't really know if that Raspberries album is considered enough of a classic to merit inclusion, but I hear you on Big Star. If you had to choose between #1 Record and Radio City, which one would you put in?

Honestly, you could flip a coin really. #1 Record has the classic Thirteen on it while Radio City has their most famous song, September Gurls. Then again, #1 Record has the original In the Street which would be used as the That 70s Show theme song.

I guess I'd lean towards #1 Record but either album works.

We'll probably go with #1 Record then. Seems to be the most acclaimed all-around as well. Don't really know why 3rd was put on the list in the first place but no harm no foul

edit: Oh, and one final thing: I was wondering if the Todd Rundgren album really qualified as Power Pop, because I don't really connect his music strongly with that term, and RYM seems to agree. I was thinking that we therefore might replace that album with something like Copper Blue by Sugar. Thoughts?
