As for your thoughts on the rest of my list, please expand on those thoughts!
I do find Triumph, BMRC, and AHA as laughable in comparison.

You`ve only picked out 3 bands from my list of twenty! I`d say that makes my list extremely valid and far from laughable.

I actually picked out the three that Big 3 pointed out and agreed those three bands were laughable in comparison, whatever helps you sleep at night i guess.

I don`t sleep very well at night in general, but I doubt this list is going to have any effect on that.

A lot of the time, some of the best discussion on these boards comes from random musical thoughts anyway and the Police remark was one such remark. I know the Police discography pretty well and I think that makes my opinion as valid as anyone else`s on here.

And I`m sure you`re old enough to defend yourself against a few flying arrows!

US - You seem to be making semantics arguments. Saying I could name 20 bands better - than the band the thread is dedicated to - is generally going to be seen as a condemnation of the band. I chose the word "attack," but a rose by any other name is still a rose.

My point in bringing that up is that it deters conversation. Not to mention you made this assumption based on, by your own account, your personal preference. So there isn't even room to have a discussion here. And the minute you were challenged on your list you went and dove behind "opinion" like it was your mothers apron.

To come to my point, statements like that kill conversation. We have more than enough Lounge posts on here talking about wiping your ass with newspapers, and herpes, and every other sort of non-musical topic. I'd hope that we could leave what musical discussion remains uncorrupted by the transient thoughts of the bored and aimless.

Its beyond me to know motive. So maybe you knew you wanted to make that post. Just the same, theres a better place for it.

You need to remember that the severity of an attack can greatly differ as well, for example a friendly swipe at a band as opposed to this band is a load of crap etc type comment, shouldn`t be taken in the same context.

Of course there is room for discussion here and nearly every opinion on here is subjective anyway as that`s largely the point of most forums. The comments were valid, as my familiarity with all the bands mentioned is pretty good to make a viable comparison, I`m not in the habit of adding bands just for the sake of it. If the debate was based around more stringent criteria such as 3 piece bands that were around at the same time as the Police, which 3 piece band was the most original or which 3 piece band had the best hairdos then I would`ve certainly named less than twenty other bands, because no criteria had been set, it was really the sky is the limit!

I really don`t know why you`re suggesting this type of post should be posted in the lounge, with topics about herpes and who people had sex with last night, as the essence of the post it is music based, so I don`t really see that there was a better place to make the post really and considering I was making a direct comparison with the Police this thread seemed quite appropriate.

Saying all that, I have noticed that there is The RIP Thread in the lounge, quite an appropriate resting place for the Police don`t you think?

The Police grossed over 358 million dollars on their recent reunion tour, i'd say thats pretty indicative of them not being dead in the marketplace. Don't believe me then WIKI it, the #6 grossing tour of 2010 in fact. Its nice to have opinions but at the end of the day, i'm sure The Police will be just fine.

Its just a case of old boys doing the circuit tour, everybody loves to go to these concerts whether it be the Stones or the Police etc. Its just an indication of how popular they were rather than how good they were.

My reference to the RIP Thread, was just a bit of the old English sense of humour kicking in mate

I`d say the first five albums were top notch, it all went seriously downhill when they reformed.

Hunting High and Low was pretty mediocre, Scoundrel Days a slight improvement

i didn't really like the one-finger plinky-plonkiness that much
