It's hard to tell why you think it ****ty whether it is because you don't like the over-all sound of the guitar or you don't the playing style. Do you think he should had be strumming the chords faster or playing a solo à la Clapton instead of what he did on the song?

i'm also of the same view

i mean what was played fit the song

as i've said earlier, it's deliberate and also tone-shifted for that slightly out-of-phase sound, and i'm not just talking about "pitch"

I never said I expected it to be clean sounding and I never said I disliked it for being "raw". I'd think even a brief look at my posts on this site would reveal that I actually like raw sounding guitar a lot. The problem is that the playing in this song sounds like shit and doesn't suit the song.

It's because I don't like how he is playing. I think I've made that pretty clear actually.

George was the lead guitar player for The Beatles, but on the track there is very sparing amount lead on it. Probably most of what could had been lead guitar was played by other intstruments. Like the part for the one instrument that sounds like a hammered dulcimer, that could had easily been a lead guitar part. I think overall the song being more of a orchestrated peice and had each instrument doing small simple parts that contribute overall to the sound of whole song.

The complexity of The Beatles is very easily overlooked. It may not always be in plain sight, but after further analysis it is recognized. They could go from playing simple songs with catchy melodies to playing really complex songs with a real layered sound.

To poster above something like "Tomorrow Never Knows" is a complex layered sound. All those loops were recorded lived in the studio one of the first examples of if not the first example of live looping on a pop song. Everything on that song is altered in some way the vocals, backward guitar solo and the drums. The track is influenced by avant garde artists who used looping and backward tapes in the past but I don't any example of live looping that pre-dated TNK which is a common element in what DJS do.

I find it interesting that the Beach Boys album 'Pet Sounds' is an insanely well crafted album and quite influential on the Beatles later works, especially for their hi-fi effects, using analog technology- and in turn, the Beatles early works influenced the Beach Boys. I only mention it because as a Beach Boys fan, I'm curious as to what elements you like in the BB music that you don't like in the Beatles. not that they are too similar, but you can hear the influence in each others music.

It's been Noted that Brian Wilson said "strawberry fields forever" was partially responsible for the shelving of Smile. when Wilson first heard the song on his car radio, he had to pull over and listen to it all the way through, and then remarked to his passenger that the Beatles already achieved the sound he was trying to reach

Imagine if Strawberry Feilds wasn't when it was but saved for Sgt Pepper. The timing of that one song being released when it was changed the course of music forever.

Still, I wonder if Brian didn't have that experience of veering off the road just to listen to Strawberry Feilds Forever would he had released SMiLE... or maybe he would still shelved it for other reasons - like depression or being a perfectionst or whatever other reason he would've had.
