And last for the day ... this is a crapshoot. People either loved Melanie or hated her. She has a weird voice, some people hate it, some people think it gives her songs extra personality.

She was a real cutie, too - something I didn't find out until a few years ago.

What's weird about that voice? Seems pretty standard to me.

You've probably heard a couple of their hit songs but I'm guessing you might not be super familiar with them.

My two favorites below, both from the same album (in 1968). Both are best appreciated with the volume up really loud.

This first one was an medium-sized hit. The outro is fantastic!

This next song was only a very minor hit but it's completely beyond me why it wasn't a HUGE hit. The chorus/bridge/chorus is nothing short of spectacular. They could teach entire classes on music theory just from this song.

These next 2 songs are, in my opinion, two of the coolest songs ever written. As in, they exude a vibe of absolute coolness.

Hello, thank you very much!!
I had never heard any song you've posted, except Sunshine Superman by Donovan. Lol that's a catchy one, and a very cool song. By the way, Jimmy Page played in that record, right? Cause I knew the song before because of that.

Continuing (if you want to) the journey into the perhaps lighter, more pastoral side of prog rock, if you like early Genesis you're almost guaranteed to like Big Big Train
Spoiler for CHOO CHOO!:

and you could do worse than check out It Bites for a slightly poppier sound...
Spoiler for They don't bite:

I'll throw in one last prog rec; you may like them or not but they're another band you could look into called Arena.
Spoiler for Into the Arena you may climb:

Hasta mañana!

1. Of course I want to continue into the more pastoral side of prog rock.
2. ¡Muchísimas gracias (otra vez)!

Yes, Page played on "Sunshine Superman" and "Hurdy Gurdy Man" - and also "Epistle To Dippy" posted below. I like a lot of Donovan's work, so am adding a couple more favorites to the pile.

Epistle To Dippy

Season Of The Witch

On Hurdy Gurdy Man, there is some dispute as to who played what instruments. It's not certain, but it looks like Jimmy Page played guitar and John Paul Jones played bass. If so, then half of the future Led Zeppelin played on that song. I think the same is true of Sunshine Superman. However, Allan Holdsworth (a really famous fusion jazz guitar player) might also have played guitar. Supposedly, George Harrison also helped him write the lyrics. So the whole song was a who's-who of rock stars of that era.

My other 2 favorite Donovan songs. Even my 80-something year old mother likes the first one!
