I hate to break it to you but classical music is not what the masses were listening to back then, it was the music of the wealthy elite.

You're right, there's way less crappy grunge music this decade then there was in the 90s. Personally, I think that's a good thing.

I don't think it's anywhere close to dying. Anytime I see any current top 10 or top 40 list or whatever there's usually a ton of rap on it, it's not going anywhere any time soon.

I'm going to second this and add that not only does this decade have plenty of quality music but music is more accessible than ever which I think is pretty damn cool.
