I feel like that line saves the song because California Gurls is so generic that anyway could've done it, but that lyric adds the quirkiness that I love about her other songs.

It seems to me that her songs that deal with gender/sexuality are far less serious then others.

The only reason i like when the good songs are released as singles is so I can be a prick and say "I liked it before it was cool" :D
