PRS SE Custom 22 stock pickups through an HD500 (Treadplate, or "Mesa Boogie" amp modeling) direct to DAW (Audacity). There is an old saying that "Tone is mostly in the fingers", and I have to agree. Two people can play on the exact same setup, and play the exact same thing, and I guarantee the tone nuances will be different. I've been playing for over 30 years so I guess I've honed my tone through dedication and hard work. Actually, the song in that video is not really a good example of my best, that's just a one off. I'm getting back into record mode, and that's a test song. Setting levels, and trying to remember how I did things 6 months ago. I'm bench marking right now, and just went through the whole production process to get a feel for it again.

Well I've listened to nearly all of your stuff so I wasn't talking about that song in particular, it was just the gateway to the question :P

So you have some very solid (and pricey) gear and I would imagine that helps, but I've heard that "the tone is in the fingers" too and I don't think I'm very good at honing that nice hard rock sound like some people can. It's been so long since I've really even played an electric guitar at this point, I've just moved on to acoustic and electronic production. Plus I've only played guitar for like six years anyway.

The tone on Blue Trubadour is just superb, I think I just need to invest more and work at it more.

I also have a Schecter Diamond series (cheap), a Washburn Nylon Acoustic (my go-to guitar that I've had for 15 years), a Dobro (given to me for my BDay), a Jaguar Bass, and a Peavey Cirrus BXP 5 string Bass. I wouldn't say expensive equipment will magically make you sound better, but it does help to facilitate in creating the sounds you're trying to achieve.

As for honing that hard rock sound, I've been honing since the 80's. With that much practice, a person has to make at least a little headway.

lol jk, I listened, and then you also made me listen in plug for a second time. I certainly have to say that this is generally outside of my comfort zone, but I was actually quite impressed with the guitar playing and the tone and overall vibe of the song. I dug it overall. Is there more?
