They do divide opinion don't they? I like the first album though and as it was under a different moniker and not sold as a Bowie product, I think we should cut him some slack. To be fair the album died on it's arse but I still like it.

1. Gene Chandler - Nothing Can Stop Me.
A Northern Soul favourite and a tune that carries a personal message and a few bad memories.
Gene Chandler means every word of this song, sang with real soul.

2. Iggy Pop - The Passenger
Another track that takes me back to a certain youth club...which involves hanging around and acting cool.

3.Edwin Starr - 25 Miles
Another Northern Soul standard and a storming floorshaker of a tune.
Turn the volume up to 11 for this one.

4.Talking Heads - Life During Wartime
I love this band and this is my favourite 'Heads' track by far. Taken from the 'Stop Making Sense' live album. Easily the best version.

5. Don Thomas - Come on Train
Easy to see where Kevin Rowland from Dexy's Midnight Runners got his singing style from. An old N.S favourite and one I never tire of hearing, addictive from the start.

6. The Jam - The Butterfly Collector
Poetic.

7. Space Monkeys - March Of The Scarecrows.
A legendary Manchester band in the mould of the Stone Roses.
Only produced one album, 'The Daddy Of Them All' before falling victim to Tony Wilsons Factory Records going arse up.
Years before their time.
Singalong with a Manc sneer and two fingers up to the world. Epic.

8. Our Love Is In The Pocket - JJBarnes.
Rare soul track from JJ Barnes. Great voice complete with girly backing vocals.
The magic lies with the lyrics.

9. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart.
I said recently elsewhere on these boards that this record gave me hope for music following the demise of punk (at the time, this is how it was perceived)
One of my favourite ever tracks.

10. Joy Division - Transmission
This one song epitomises what Ian Curtis was all about.
His epileptic state while performing this song, will live with me forever.

A dub classic. Say no more really.
2. Grand National - Going To Switch The Lights On.
Great little classic pop band with a sparkly gitar jingle.
3. The Cranes - Bewildered.
You could call them a proto trip hop band with the female vocals and strange beats.
4. Mount Eerie- No Flashlight.
Minimalist acoustic yumminess.
5. Loop - Shot With A Diamond.
Trip ahoy! Hypnotic and utterly original. You wont hear many tracks similar.
6.The Stranglers - Threatened.
You want big fat bass lines? check out Jean Jacques Burnell's booming lines on this classic post punk track.
7. Bernard Herrman - Taxi Driver Theme
Stunning last score from a soundtrack master. A beautiful Jazz infused piece.
8. The Toasters-Marlboro Man
Third wave ska at it's catchiest.
9. Tin Machine-Pretty Thing.
Most fans did'nt like Bowie's side project that was essentially an upmarket metal band. I however love the first album and this track.
10. Nitzer Ebb-Fun To Be Had.
One of the earliest EBM bands around. Very influential.
11. Lisa Gerard-The Insider.
Glorious hypnotic track from the film soundtrack The Insider. Lisa Gerard was a member of the influential Dead Can Dance.
12. Folk Implosion-Natural One.
I have only ever heard this track by these and would love to hear more. I love the big snare sound and the breezy guitar licks.
13. Clayhill-Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.
A cover of The Smiths classic for the This Is England soundtrack.
14. Roy Budd-Get Carter Theme.
Classic film. Iconic score.
15. Graham Reynolds-Aphids.
Strange bizarre electronice from the A Scanner Darkly soundtrack
