No Spoonman? That's the only song I really like by them.

I'm not to big on Spoonamn, it's pretty repetitive. Only time I'll listen to it is this live version:

Mostly because of that insane thing Kim Thayil does with his guitar at 2:34.
Spoonman does have a really sick drumm solo though, Matt Cameron is really underrated.

At first I thought putting Black Hoke Sun in there would be like putting Smells Like Teen Spirit in a Nirvana comp but I decided to just put it in anyway. Also I felt like I had to put Helter Skelter in just because it's such a classic live Soundgarden cover.

no Face Pollution? ;_;

not a bad comp and some good song choices, mind you, but still, no Face Pollution?

I think Face Pollution is really underrated but I was kind of hestitant to put it on a beginners comp just because I think the vocals could be hard to like for some. To be honest I don't think a song like that could make or break a comp though.

U.K Punk

Most of us know (or should know) that The Clash, The Pistols, The Damned etc were huge bands in the punk scene but guess what? The U.K did produce one or two more punk bands and here is a introduction to the spit and snarl of U.K bands. I haven't included the aforementioned bands as that would be boring. Instead is a selection of mainly '77-'82 songs apart from a couple that encapsulated a huge scene over here with far too many bands to mention.

Tracklisting:

1. The 4 Skins - One Law For Them All
2. Broken Bones - F.O.A.D
3. Discharge - The Nightmare Continues
4. The Stupids - Stupid Monday
5. Crass - End Result
6. The Rezillos - Top Of The Pops
7. The Lurkers - Shadow
8. Sham 69 - Borstal Breakout
9. The Exploited - Addiction
10.Menace - G.L.C
11.The Adicts - Numbers
12.Conflict - Force or Service
13.The Drones - Bone Idol
14.U.K Subs - C.I.D
15.Generation x - Ready Steady Go
16.Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster
17.999 - High Energy Plan
18.Ruts - Criminal Mind
19.G.B.H - Slut

Click on the pin and hear the din:

You forgot about the Adverts and Alternative TV, but you included the Rezillos and 999, so I'll let you off with top marks there

Some great tunes there, and a few I don't have. Dee-elling now...

edit - Temporarily unavailable. Bah humbug! I'll try again in a bit.

The original comp was around 30 tracks and that's just a little too big so a few didn't make the comp.

Yeah, I was thinking that. Don't get me wrong, it looks a grand, especially for the beginner. There are a few bands like Generation X, the Lurkers and GBH I've been meaning to give a go but just never got round to it, so as soon as the link starts working for me I'll be all over it like a powerful moss.

Deserves attention too, so I'll just quote it here now that I've started another page...

Someone should consider making a beginner's jazz comp.

Id love that, my jazz knowledge doesnt extend much further than miles davis and coltrane at the moment.

Although I do have a great album by a band called the philidelphia project which is the side project of the Roots drummer. Anything in that vain would be much appreciated
