I'd just like to point out that 99.9% of the people who have ever been on this site (who aren't unfairly built like a radioactive iguana as DWV is) would probably get eaten alive in a street fight and have no place commenting on anything.

I'm 50% in the street fighting category. Won 2. Lost 2. This was way before the "kick em in the face when they're down" days though.

How to win street fights:

1) Find jab distance
2) Jab idiot in face whenever they walk in to you
3) Keep calm

No power needed, save your energy for when you need it. I wouldn't go to the ground unless you know what you're doing.

All the super punches and people fighting like they just blew an 8ball is hilarious.

For the record, I wasn't suggesting to take any fights to the ground. That's obviously something you don't want to happen for obvious reasons, especially if you're at a physical disadvantage (which is usually the case unless you're the assailant)...I was just noting the propensity for street fights that aren't over instantaneously, to usually eventually end up on the ground; hence why any Brazilian jujitsu experience would come in handy at that point.

Also bear in mind that I say this as a female who's never trained, I've merely always found MMA interesting. However, if I ever found myself in self-defense situation, I'd probably be taken to ground level quite quickly, again for obvious reasons. I try to practice enough situational awareness so as not to find myself in that predicament to begin with though.

When I started doing BJJ we would practice by trying to submit each other. Even as a beginner I found myself able to defend against submissions, but as soon as I tried to submit my partner out I would end up putting myself in a position to get caught. Being offensive makes you incredibly vulnerable if you don't know what you're trying to accomplish. You will move awkwardly, leave limbs wide open, and probably be off balanced.

If you don't know what you're doing it's safer to just defend and try to stand up than to try and go offensive on the ground.
