I have the $80 pair of the senheisers and the uber pro bose ones (both in-ear style) and the senheisers are infinitely better.

I'm very glad I found this thread. I got some money for Christmas, and was hoping to buy a good pair of headphones finally, and everyone seems so enamored with the Sennheiser 280s that I htink that's what I'm going to get. Hopefully tomorrow in fact. They should be a hell of an upgrade over my $15 earbuds.

i had them man.. and really disliked them.. absoolutely NO BASS.. if you are looking for bass you're going to be in for a surprize. Also the size of them is a bit overwhelming.

I returned them and now trying the 212's. They are extremely light and have a very good bass responce. I think they are a really good pair for almost anything. On a couple of the songs i listen too you can hear a bit distortion, but i think that is because I have mine equalized for bass 100%.

My friend just got a pair of Senn 555's and wont shut up about how great they are. So those 2 pairs if you have the chance to try out I would, this assuming you want some amount of bass. If bass is not an issue then 280's will do exactly what you want. The sound quality is unreal, but lacking bass.

Ok cool I'm going to keep that in mind. I'm heading to a store that has all three that you mentioned in stock, as well some Bose I wanted to try out. I was originally thinking I'd get a pair of around the ear Bose, but the headband on the normal one looks really weak, thin and plastic. My friend has the noise cancelling ones, and they're great, but I don't think I can justify $400 headphones. I'll be back with something today though. I actually don't think the bass will bea big problem for me. Obviously I need some, but I won't be listening to hip-hop, or other bass orientated music. I'll have to just try them out and see.
