I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 419's. The sound is decent enough but I've never been quite happy with them, the bass can be too much sometimes. The big pro is that they're the most comfortable headphones I've ever had and I can wear them for hours.

I've been considering getting a pair of AKG 240s. I'm looking for a pair of headphones with good clear mids and sounds great whether plugged into a home stereo, a laptop or an mp3 player.

I bought a pair of AKG 240s to repalce my Numark Redwave headphones that just sound horrible. No idea why I thought they sounded great back when I got them but compared to the AKG 240s they sound incredibly flat. I thought about treating myself to the AKG Q 701 but I don't think my ears are sensitive enough to pick up the subtle differences that an extra hundred and thirty dollars would bring.

Anyone know the difference between ATH M50's and M50x's? Just the fact you can pull the cord out?

It should say ATH-M50x right on the earcup, just below the swivel thing.

From everything I have heard there is no sound difference. A little more padding and slightly larger ear holes, some different colors, removable cord, that's about it.

The newer ones are different that the old ones. Mainly because the old ones were voiced for analog signals and higher output devices. The new ones are voiced for digital and low output devices.

Not saying better or worse, just different.

On my limited budget I managed to score a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 pros. Everything sounds amazing. I can even pop them into my turntable.
