Thinking about these Alesis. They're on sale everywhere lately.

^ I have the MKII version of those. They're solid, and are pretty flat as far as I can tell, not being in an ideal acoustic environment to be more objective about it.
I've had mine for about 4 years or so without any incident. I'd vouch for those assuming they're not on another planet than my version in terms of overall sound, which they shouldn't be.

Well, my only concern is that I will be using them as stereo speakers, not nearfield monitors, which they are. In other words I'll be doing little to no mixing with them and my listening position will be off axis most of the time. I know that they're going to have a very tight sound stage, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.

If it's any consolation, mine are currently on the floor tilted upwards and definitely not part of any equilateral anything, and they do fine for general purposes. I don't do any mixing on them since I've been in my apartment, so they're just being glorified PC speakers anyway.
How far from your listening position are you planning to have them? Mine are only about 3 feet away on either side, but they project well enough at further distances and without any spacial issues I care about for the function they're providing, although I don't exactly give 'em much juice considering my circumstances.

I haven't heard the Alesis speakers. They look quite nice though .
I must say I like Genelec a lot, but that's pretty expensive...

Cool. I'll plan on getting some next time I roll through the McDonald's drive-thru.

I just made one of the most terrible things you can find on youtube

An unboxing video .
But I added my cat.
So that makes up for the lameness of the video.

I bought 10 brand new Quantegy cassettes. They're normally not available in the Netherlands, so I'm glad I found them. I bought them just because it's intresting that you can still buy brand new (not NOS) cassettes anno 2011

Two gains today.
Or actually just one, but I figured I can mention them both.
First this:

A brilliant headphone. Cost me about $10 which is dirt cheap for this one.
Proves that there's no improvement in audio at all since the 70's. Man it's good.

And then there's this:

A very nice, new old stock Audio Technica AT14Sa Phono Cartridge.
I've had this for years, but I lost it right after I bought it. My dad borrowed it from me to test his Sharp Optonica RP7100 which he put in the attic not long after that. I just sold a LOT of stuff, mainly my Dad's stuff.

This, two times.

Anyway, I found the AT14sa mounted in the Sharp Optonica. Big surprise.
Just tested it, matches brilliantly with my Technics SL-1200 MK-II. Will finetune it tomorrow (protractor, scope, test record, the lot).

Eitherway, did a lot of selling today. Sold for about $600 of my dad's stuff (the money is for him, obviously, altough I hope I get my share for the huge amount of work I did sorting it out) and for about $500 for me.
Playstation 3, here I come
