Do you play a lot? or just for fun by yourself?
i've taken lessons for about 2-3 years, and yes i play ALOT, i guess you can say i'm intermediate, but right now i'm not playing guitar in a band. i play in a band right now, but i'm on bass, here's my bass, btw, i call her Big Red:

and i know my setup sucks, i just don't have the money for a new one. but seriously, i'm not one to go out and buy some flashy type of instrument when i can do just as good with what i have. i mean, i know there are excellent high end guitars that have good features and sh*t, but if i have a good cheap thing that works just as well, why bother. i mean, i have an acoustic right now that's missing a tuning key and i can still play better than a number of people i know

idk, i guess i focus more on what's being played than the instrument itself

*whew* sorry for the rant

relax

i WISH i still had the beater electric i learned on. i played it for almost 3 years straight while i saved up for that mexi-strat at $5/hour. the only way i justified buying the LTD was a surprise jumbo tax return in 2006.

you're right that there's no need to get 'flashy' gear if you don't know how to use it but please tell me a small collection is in the cards. you'd be surprised at what you can get between $600-$800 and how quickly $2 here and $5 there can accumulate.

yeah, i see what you mean, right now i'm trying to save up for a new acoustic, mine's ok for what it is but it has soooo many setbacks. i'm ok with my electric at the moment, minus a few things here and there

thanks for the comments guys

you're right it's in horrible shape. even for my standards. taking that pic was the first time i've actually picked it up off the stand since i moved into this place 5 years ago. what can i say, i'm a burnout who prefers electrics.

either way, with that much neglect would the lemon oil you'd typically use on furniture be fine for something like this or do you recommend a specific product like dr. duck's axe wax.

i also just noticed a bit of a typo in the description for that guitar haha it was a gift from my mom.

@antonio - there's never a need to rush into getting new gear, i'm just glad to know you plan on getting some in the future.

I don't have a digital camera, but these pictures represent my weaponry

I traded in a fender jazzmaster for this guitar...it's a replica of the mosrite johnny ramone played. It sounds like a buzzsaw. This is the guitar I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. It's a nice, simple, and surprisingly loud guitar. Mine is the gold one.

...the one I have is green. This is the guitar I use for experimenting with. I get I nice clanging steve albinish tone with this one.

....this is my amp.

...My pedals are a:electroharmonix double muff, fuzzface, and a crybaby wah.I also have an old bass marauder amp that I have to turn on with a piece of cardboard or I get electrocuted.

Google 'fret doctor'

The site is beafifer.com or something. Its AWESOME stuff, I use it on all my axes. It lasts forever too. Two drops is MORE than enough to oil even the whole first fret on my Ibanez. Your guitar might need more, due to condition, but its easy to eyeball it.

They won't, you have to order online. Its very cheap for what you get though. I bought a bottle before I started university and I still have more than half of it left, with an oiling every second time I changed strings.
