The only advantage of using heads with cabinets rather than buying a combo, is that you could SWITCH cabinets for different sounds. The combination will always be heavier and less portable than buying a combo. It will also be more of a pain to set up and if you forget your speaker cables you're ****ed.
hahaha thaaaaaaaaaaaat explains it... thanks for putting up with my ignorance guys. Gonna get the combo amp

GET A TUBE AMP NOT A SOLID STATE! Save yourself having to sell it and buy a new one!

Funny you should say that I am starting to think I should
I just played a Ampeg Vt-22 and fell in love with it gah I think I am gonna buy it instead of the new mustang. The spring reverb in it sounds so great! and I guess im a fan of tube sound DAMNIT. I was banking on liking solid states out of convenience but I guess not. The ampeg seems to work fine and is gonna be about the same as the mustang (300 bucks) but I think its pretty old. Is there any specifics I should look at before buying the thing. Btw is it true greg sage used an ampeg or something for some of his wipers stuff? I forget who told me that.

*Edit its a gemini 2 not a vt-22

I tried to like solid state also. After my ear got better and better I realized why any professional worth his salt almost always choses tube.
