Default Recent Albums: Incubus - Light Grenades

Incubus' most recent album, Light Grenades, sounds like 13 different bands, preforming 13 different songs (Not unlike previous ones). This makes it hard to give the album any overall rating, because each song is so different.

"Quicksand" – 2:14

This song really feels all wrong to me. Not unlike Incubus, it sounds way more techno than Alt. Rock. However, I am a huge tehcno and electronic music fan, so this really isn't so bad.

6.5 stars out of 10

"A Kiss to Send Us Off" – 4:16

7 out of 10

"Dig" – 4:17

Soft, yet a very good riff.

7.5 out of 10

"Anna Molly" – 3:46

Good sounding chorus, the riff is pretty cool and I like the lyrics.

8 out of 10

"Love Hurts" – 3:57

One of the albums strong points, in my opinion. Lyrics are cool, true and easy to remember (for those of you who like to sing along). The riff is less evident in this song, but still a strong point. Finally, the chorus is extremely memorable, and I hope they continue to play this live in concert long after they release a new album.

9 out of 10

"Light Grenades" – 2:20

Finally, the album highlight! While certainly not worthy of naming a whole album after, this is a fairly good song to rock out to!

6.5 out of 10

"Earth to Bella (Part I)" – 2:28

Let's just get this one out of the way... I HATE IT! I have a certain disgust of cheesy love ballads that prevents me from liking this song.

3.5 out of 10

"Oil and Water" – 3:49

5.5 out of 10

"Diamonds and Coal" – 3:46

6.5 out of 10

"Rogues" – 3:56

7.9 out of 10

"Paper Shoes" – 4:17

There is a certain part in this song that I like. Unfortunatly, it just takes WAY to long to get to it.

6 out of 10

"Pendulous Threads" – 5:35

7.5 our of 10

"Earth to Bella (Part II)" – 2:58

While better than it's counterpart, I still hate it.

5.5 out of 10

Overall:

7.7 out of 10

Rock o Meter

Moderate Rock

Final Word:

A decent album worthy of attention from Incubus fans, otherwise. It will probally attract some new fans as well.

Personally, I thought this album was one of the best Incubus have released, Quicksand/A kiss to send us off works perfectly, and their lyrics are solid as usual.

For me, the only low point is "dig" and after Love Hursts the album goes from strength to strength, Diamonds, Oil and Water, paper shoes and Rogues being some of my favourite songs to date.

Yes, this album isn't like any other album incubus have released, but isn't that a good thing? it shows a band with great talent, one which can stretch out and broaden their sounds without completely abandoning their roots.

I think its their worst album, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Morning View being their best. But its still good.

I think you might have been a little rough on the album. They changed there sound some, but thats to be expected, since they have done that every album they have come out with. This album has a wide variety of songs, and shows them definitely getting better as musicians. But i agree with you in that Morning View etc was a better album.

Nothing wrong with change, but there is such a thing as a change for the worse. All of their other albums were great in that there was something unique about them, but Light Grenades seems to be their attempt at the whole "lo fi alt rock" trend, which comes off sounding forced and artificial. There are still some pretty good songs, its just not the Incubus I've come to love.

I was disapponited with "A Crow Left Of Off the Murder" and this seems better than their previous album. More straight-forward rock and not as confusing lyrics. I love it. "A Kiss Send Us Off," "Earth to Bella," and "Dig" are great songs.
