Music Banter Hall of Fame...

I was wondering if anyone likes the idea of setting up a section of the site called the "Hall of Fame" honoring the bands that best represent the collective musical tastes of the people who post here.

I have some ideas for the framework, let me know what you think.

Qualifications for Nomination

To be considered for nomination to the MB Hall of Fame a band must:

Have an "unofficial" Official Thread that has existed no less then Six (6) Months.
10 years must have passed since the release of their first album.

Nomination Process

If a band meets that criteria any member with at least 100 posts may nominate a band by starting a thread in the Nomination section and titling it with the Band\Artists name. A poll will also be included that can be accessed by anyone using the site, it will ask simply Should this band be in the MB hall of Fame.

It would be recommended that the user cite reasons or make a case why their artist should be considered.

The thread will allow for discussion and the votes will decide if the nomination goes through or not. If a nominee gets more then 50% or the vote in favor they will be eligible for the Hall of Fame

Induction Process

All of the Band\Artists that make it through the nomination thread will included on a list and when the list reaches seven (7) or more nominees another thread will be made and opened for a week allowing all the members of the site to see who is up for induction and make a case. At the end of the week the members of the Hall of Fame panel will vote. Members may vote as for none or all of the acts nominated. A Nominee must receive votes from 2/3 (66.666...%) of the voting members to be inducted. Once in they are in forever. Nominees who do not receive enough of the vote will not be eligible again for six (6) Months.

Hall of Fame Panel

Consists of active members with at least one year membership on the same account and at least 1,000 posts.

So that's the nuts and bolts of it, I'd love to see it happen, make all the changes you need to fit the expectations and standards of the site...Let me know what you all think.

We will certainly look into this. Thankyou for the post JJJ. Food for thought.

Great idea.

I'm up for it definitely. I remember there was a hall of fame here a while ago, but the set-up for this seems better.
Considering the panel though i don't think the need to have 1000 posts, there's plenty of posters here with less than that who would be good for that panel.

My concern is if too many people are voting each time too few bands will get in. There is probably 20+ people here with 1,000 posts and a year membership. But like I said whatever works best. Plus it takes posters of all experience and activity to get a band in under my proposed plan.

What's the next step?

I vote for PMO to do this as he's a newbie and maybe has more time on his hands! ;)

Corr put the weight on my shoulders!
Yeah sure, perhaps it'll be easier if we have a Nominations thread in General Music, changing the polls every few days or so?

I think we should focus on finishing the best band polls first...
