PC or Mac?

6 in 6 years? I've only had to replace my laptop once so I've had about 2 in 5 years.

You are doing something wrong. What company did you to go to buy a laptop?

The computer I use at work is the same one I use at home. Lugging a tower and monitor back and forth on public transportation every day would certainly be a hassle.

6 laptops in 6 years? What the heck were you buying? I've only been using a laptop for the past 2 years, and so far I still have the same Windows laptop. I just upgraded it to 7 when it was released, because Vista sucks. My mom, on the other hand, has only had two laptops in the past 8 or 9 years, one with Windows ME and the "newer" one with XP. She uses the XP one everyday and it has yet to give her a problem.

I certainly don't need either of my laptops with me all the time. I took my MacBook to school everyday so I could work on my own computer instead of using a gross, outdated, public one in the library. Plus when I have my own computer, I can work whenever I want to for as long as I want, and I don't need to wait for a public one to free up and on which there is a 2 hour time limit.

I have an IBM Z60M that fell off the table at least 10 times with the previous owner. Still going strong, not even looking bad. I'm not sure if a Macbook could stand that, but then... That very IBM costs twice what a Macbook costs. I got it for free, which is great, because I think that price is ridiculous.

Tonka should start making laptops.

I'm not stupid, I was just making sure what I was reading was clear.

Well, I got my first laptop (in 2003) from Tigerdirect. It was a Compaq Presario, and it was practically DOA. Every time I shut it down, all my system files would become corrupted.

Second one was a Toshiba Satellite, which overheated constantly.
Third was, I don't even remember.. but it sucked and I had it for like a week.

Then I unwittingly got a laptop that was "made for Vista". I tried my hardest, but the hardware had no XP Drivers, so I sold it.

Ended up with an Acer... mobo went out.

Then I smartened up and got a laptop custom built. What I actually had built was a very expensive blue-screen generator. Fortunately, for the company, they ensured that it would work until the warranty was out.

As far as me not using the computers properly, I don't think that's the case. All I know is after I got out of the military, I built a desktop PC, chose all the parts myself and put it together myself, and it has been running non-stop with absolutely no problems for about 4 years. Recently built another one and it's having no issues at all.

So yea, screw a laptop. I don't care if I just got unlucky... I'm not spending any more money on a crapshoot.

yep you got unlucky but I'm getting ready to build a custom pc myself.

I still like having a laptop as an option when I want to go to the library and take it with me to work on some projects or if I have to travel somewhere and it's not reasonable to lug my whole pc setup.

Dunno... the only things I do on a computer that would need my specific computer to do it if I happened to be at another place is music production. For anything else, I have a thumb drive.

I generally "work on projects" at home. I've not found any reason to do otherwise.

Macs are great for media based work (Pro Tools, Final Cut, etc.) PC's are great for gaming and office. But the two are becoming interchangable, except the price that is : )
