Generally very interested in Music, from where can I start?

I am generally so interested in Arts specially music and acting, I like to taste rhythms and lyrics and I listen to music on daily basis.

I tried to learn the classic guitar but it is not that easy, I am 32 years old and starting at this age is hard, I can play on it, but usually very slow and my fingers usually hit wrong strings, I believe if I want to master it will take years.

I ould like to do anything related to music as a hobby or even as a secondary career, can I use softwares, I see a lot of music application but I do not know what they do, I saw on my OSx store an expensive music application that costs 200$

Can you recommend a nice free or cheap application I can download to my macbook?

Any suggestions are very welcome.
