Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera

Technically I made my first rec two pages ago, so I shouldn't be penalized because you've listened to albums.

I think TH may prefer A Twist in the Myth due to its more Progressive Rock sort of elements, though ANatO is great too, I actually prefer it myself, but I'm still unsure how TH would see them in comparison. Either way I figure he'll like both a lot once he gets around to ATitM sometime after hearing your rec of ANatO.

That's actually one of the few BG albums I've never heard.

I've heard quite enough Zappa thank you. Try something else. Also, let someone else get a rec in. You always tend to do this, throwing three or four albums at me during the submission period. I may start restricting you guys to one album per cycle. I need to hear from other people.

It's actually quite great, even most of the album's detractors I've heard admit that it starts out really strong at least.

Spoiler for I'm spoilering this because it isn't directly related to the thread:
Most of the issues I've heard people mention about it tends to mostly do with the production, and stylistic direction going a bit more proggy, plus keeping the elements developed through NiMe and ANatO instead of going back to their older SFB/IftOS sound which quite a few fans had been hoping for.

As for what I think, the production isn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be, but it certainly isn't BG's best produced album. The youtube uploadings certainly don't do it justice, and my CD of it was a purchase I'm very satisfied with.

About it's style. If you already like ANatO, NiMe, and are welcome to a slightly different take on their sound in some of the songs, as them being a fair bit more proggy in tone/execution (less so in song arrangement i.e. really long stuff/fiddling with verse/chorus/bridge/solo/etc. sort of stuff,) then it should at least be likable to some degree.

Also, it actually took me quite a while to really appreciate the album, and I'm not entirely sure why, but it was the same with a few of their other albums, and I'm glad I stuck with them, and this one, because it shot up from being one of my least favourite albums of theirs along with FtB, up to not quite a favourite, but a really solid release in their career. So, I think it certainly warrants a listen for any Blind Guardian fans who've liked any of their stuff at least since NiMe, if not earlier.

Title: Junk of the heart
Artiste: The Kooks
Genre: Indie
Familiarity: Zero

Track 1(Love) Good opener, nice melody. Reminds me a bit of The Cars at times.
Track 2(Love) Yeah, I like this one too.
Track 3(Love) Very Tears For Fears with a kind of darkish feel
Track 4(Love) Yes, this is very nice. Mandolin and some sort of buzzy organ or something, nice acoustic guitar.
Track 5 Didn't think much of that really
Track 6(Love) Think this may make up for it though: beautiful violin and cello opening; beautiful ballad, unfortunately quite short.
Track 7(Love) Yeah that one was good, nothing terribly great but not bad
Track 8(Love) This is quite fun; lots of energy in it. Reminds me of Prefab again.
Track 9(Love) Oh I really like this. Why does this sound familiar?
Track 10(Love) This is lovely and laidback, another acoustic with sublime vocal harmonies.
Track 11(Love) Very jaunty, very pleasant. Organ is cool.
Track 12(Love) Kind of a Billy Joel feel about this, love the piano.

End result: Again I had no idea what to expect, but it was really an enjoyable experience. It helped that most of the tracks were short, which made it easier to listen to. Not that all albums need to be like that of course, but at least it wasn't Sunn O)))! Yeah, enjoyed this a lot.

So, Love or Hate? Love for this one.

Can we have more Radiohead? Wanna know your take on OK Computer. If not, The Velvet Underground and Nico!
