Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight – Travis Scott – 2016

What the hell does that title mean? I've heard of Bryan McKnight, but it's not as if these are covers of his songs, so, you know, what gives? Baby. Also, I assumed from the name that this guy would be a Country artist, but no. Well **** me: I'm hardly hip-hop's greatest fan, am I, and I doubt this is going to change my mind about margarine, so from the off I think we're on a hiding to nothing. But here goes anyway.

1. The ends: ****ing ****ing ****ing ****ING ****-ING AUTOTUNE!!!!!!!!! That doesn't start things out well at all. Music's decent enough but that ****ing voice! Urgh! Also yawn. Sort of reminds me of a cross between a very bad Prince and Shaggy.
2. Way back: How can anyone listen to that poxy ****ing Autotune? It just ruins everything. What I'll give this guy is that it's not the more in-your-face rap that I've experienced on other albums, but I don't have enough knowledge about this genre to be able to say whether it's good or bad compared to other rappers. There are some nice musical moments in it, sure, like the synthy bit halfway through this, but I've no idea whetehr this is typical or not.
3. Co-ordinate: Not quite sure why all the tracks are shown on Wiki as being in lower case, but my auto-wotsit won't allow me not to capitalise them, so there you are. Maybe it's an affectation? Cute if it is. Sort of. Opening rap is very annoying but the song when it settles down is not too bad. Think I can muster an Orange on this one. Didn't expect that.
4. Through the late night: This one's not too bad either. I like the relaxed feel of the music. If it wasn't for that poxy burn-in-Hell Autotune I might actually be able to enjoy this. Another Orange. Who would have bet against that?
5. Beibs in the trap: I have no idea what this means. What are “beibs”? Yeah, don't like this one at all.
6. SDP interlude: Well damn you Scott! Most rappers, when they talk of “interludes”, make the track a minute or less. Not you, no! You have to have a full song but call it an interlude. In fact, you have only one song shorter than three minutes.
7. Sweet sweet: Yawn. Can't get past that teeth-setting-on-edge Autotune!

8. Outside: This is just getting worse as it goes along. I wish I was outside, away from this!
9. Goosebumps: My god this is just so ****ing boring! Goosebumps? I got 99 feelings, son, but goosebumps ain't one! The warpy music is just annoying, like much of this album. Sorry, all of this album.
10. First take: BoredBoredBoredBoredBored
11. Pickup the phone: Not if it's you, Mister Scott. Warp power, now! Whaddya mean, the enginess cannae take it?
12. Lose: BoredBoredBoredBoredBored You Lose. Or I do, since I have to listen to this. Either way, someone loses and there are no winners.

14. Wonderful: BoredBoredBoredBoredBored. Wonderful! It's over! At last!

Well, as you can see I started off being bored, then mildly impressed for one or two tracks, then bored again, and finally hating every second of this album. Not surprising, as I'm not a fan of the old hippity-hop, but this just drove through my brain worse than the Very Best of Merzbow 99,000-disc boxset. It was, in a word, awful.

Batty's verdict: TBA
Trollheart's verdict: Awful, boring, tedious and very very annoying.
I was going to go with Meh but no, it's a big fat dripping HATE for this.
