You're gonna get one of Twiztid's worst albums of their career too.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Art Is Dead. Buy My ****.

Just a thought - but why subject yourself to listening to so much music you know you will hate? I mean I've listened to some albums this year due to a recommendation or whim that I ended up not liking, but that's typically because I had no previous information on the artist. I'm pretty confident that come december I can make a year end list that I feel is complete without checking out this year's releases by brad paisley, pitbull, papa roach etc

I want to make a point of listening to ALL the albums on the list. It's just me. Anyway, I have my get-out clauses if things go south, which I'm sure they will in more cases than not.

Album title: Angel's Knock
Artist: AOA (Angels of Ace)
Genre: K-pop
Release date: January 2
Position in Discography: Third
Familiar with this artist? Not at all
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Check out more from this artist? Sure, why not?
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? I would not be averse

Not gonna lie: I think I'd much rather listen to some teen girls sing about Elvis, boys and butterflies than listen to Chief Keef one more second. Even if this is really bad, it can't be as bad as the one I just suffered through. Hell, I might even watch some videos of them: they gotta be hot, right? Shut up: I'm old and frustrated. Let me have my fun. And get off my lawn, while you're at it. Damn kids. Right then. Ah, supposedly this is all in Korean. Well, that's fine: my grasp of Korean is slightly worse than my command of Klingon. At least I won't have to talk about the lyrics, which may be a blessing.

Kicks off like a Kylie record, which is no bad thing. Bit odd: Wiki says this is their first Korean language album (what – were the other two in English?) but I can definitely detect smatterings of English in there. Most of it is pretty unintelligible though. Speaking of pretty, I'm spending much of this listen calling up images of these girls, which is no waste of my time, let me tell you! Music is decent enough so far, nothing groundbreaking, but then, you wouldn't expect that would you? But nothing that makes me want to cut my ears off with a blunt spoon. Yet. “Lily” changes things up, bringing in a kind of bluesy fifties ballad (although I could have sworn the opening line was I want your willy! ) The album has a nice kind of mix of disco, girlband, bit of soul and a little blues. **** it, even the silly rap on “Help me” is cute, and the boogie strut on “Oh boy” is just cool. And a nice Eurovision style ballad to close.

Think I've found my new favourite genre of music. Well, maybe not. But I certainly wouldn't refuse to listen to more, as I'm sure I will be required to. Overall verdict: inoffensive, friendly, happy, pleasant music sung by girls who actually can sing. And look hawt. A good way to pass a nice half hour without too much mental exertion. Can't argue with that.

Perfume, a Japanese girl group makes some pretty neat music in the same vein.
This song is pretty good, I think:

It's called 'Polyrhythm'.
I know it because Marty Friedman did an all guitars cover of it.

Think that may very well be my first usage of "Oh Hell No!"

So it looks like we're staying in Korea, and I have more Googling to do. Shut up; I told you already. Seems this band have broken up but came back together for this album, which marks their twentieth anniversary. Got to say, that's pretty impressive. Can certainly hear a more, shall we say, mature sound to the music – very big band, jazzy, swing, almost like something from the forties. Again, it sounds like there's a mixture of Korean with a few lines of English. And again, lyricwise, probably better that most of it is not in English: I definitely heard Let's make a memory/ And jingle all the way. Um, yeah. Pleasant enough though. Good singer(s). Another good thing about these albums seems to be that they don't outstay their welcome. Whereas our man Chief had like 17 tracks on his offering, this has ten, and no song is over much more than four minutes. Short, snappy, easily digested and not a slog to get through. These girls know where it's at.

“Paradise” is pure disco funk, and “Hush” is a sweet little ballad. This isn't on Spotify, annoyingly, so I had to search for it on the Y, and the only full version fails to time the tracks, which again is annoying and means I have to guess. But it's pretty decent so far anyway. Yer wan has a real sexy voice, that's for sure. “Life” reminds me of The Carpenters in places, while “The Light” is another and perhaps better ballad than “Hush”. Oh, and an English version of the title track to close. Nice.

Wow, Korea, amirite? Seems like I'll never get back west. This is apparently a brother and sister, and there's some really nice laidback piano to start the opener; both seem to take a turn at the singing, whether this is a good move or not is something I haven't yet decided on. Second track is, how can I put this? Oh yeah: ****. Third makes up for it, but it's nothing terribly special, not that I expected it to be. I guess your expectations have to be set fairly low in the world of K-pop? Some nice violin there. Hmm. Is a pattern developing here? First track, good, second track ****. Third track good, fourth track ****. Let's see if this continues. I do admit I have not high hopes for a song called “Chocolady”, but surely it can't be as bad as this ****ing dross? This is painful. It's called, oddly, “Play ugly”. How appropriate: it sounds ugly, and very annoying. Now it's over, thank the Great Pixie.

Ah yes, a bog standard ballad that most soul bands would shy from, the kind of thing that perhaps Sade might find buried at the very bottom of her rejects drawer but not have the heart to throw out, though she should cos it's **** with a capital S. And so the pattern is broken. Oh dear. Will it reverse? Is it possible that “You Know Me” will actually be good, or are we just now diving deeper into a pit of garbage from which this album will never emerge? Oh dear they're attempting reggae. Yeah. Down we go! Okay well, “Way back home” was not bad, and the closer seems to make a decent attempt to recover after all the rubbish they've put out up to then. Still, easily the worst K-pop album I've heard so far (I know; I've only heard three including this) – at least it's very short.
Meh.
