Default Why a song Golden Brown didn't crack America?

I always wondered why this MASTERPIECE of the 80's was a very big hit all over Europe, but it failed to even chart in the USA.

What was a problem?

'Cause America doesn't open its crack to just any song.

Beautiful song.

America in the 80's? Do you really have to ask?

The musical arrangement makes it sound very European. Maybe that's why. Americans only like America.

They probably thought it was racist.

Perhaps oddly, I prefer my Stranglers with more of a punk edge to them:

Maybe "Golden Brown" was just half-baked.
