Default The Emo Album Club: Born to Whisper

Settler - Born to Whisper

Title: Born to Whisper
Artist: Settler
Year: 2013
______

Damn, late again. Hopefully no one committed suicide out of disappointment. Anyway, there were two albums nominated, and they got one vote each, so I'm picking this one because it was nominated first (and totally not because it was my suggestion). Also, I think this is a good time to mention that if I'm late making one of these threads, you needn't hesitate to make it yourself *cough*.

Listening right now. Will edit with more thoughts as I get through the album.

Pretty depressing album. Reminds me of bands like Christie Front Drive or Elliott but darker sometimes. Vocals are a bit whiny for me. It sounds like they have a female member on vox, too? That's always cool. Emo's always been a bit of a boys club from my experience. I like the use of the loud/soft dynamics. Solid bass work. So far my favorite track is Gnats, which sounds nothing like the other tracks on the album. Perhaps surprisingly Liquorbed has been my least favorite. Could use some more variety. I feel like I've been listening to the same over and over for a while.

3.5/5. I didn't hate it I just tend to prefer more energetic emo bands that verge on either hardcore or pop punk territory.

Just realized I listened to the wrong album. I was listening to Ribbon Fix, I don't even remember downloading the album.

Don't judge me I had like 3 edibles I could barely tell my hands from my feet. Proper review or the right album tomorrow.

Very energetic vocals and drumming, and nice guitars. The whole thing is pretty upbeat, and upon hearing the first track, I immediately thought of Park Jefferson's song "Astronauts".

I'm tempted to give this a 4/5, but I always am. I'll rate it 3.5/5 instead, because I liked it a lot, but really it's nothing new.
