Default "The Next Big Thing" - Palma Violets?

Hi all,

So after lead single Best Of Friends was named NME's best track of 2012 the British music press have been fawning over this band.

180 is a pretty good album but it's no Turn On The Bright Lights for example.

Can you give any examples of bands who were tipped to be the NEXT BIG THING and never pulled it off, releasing mediocre music and retreating into obscurity?

Let the debate begin!

Hmm, Kosha? Although they had many name changes, and people probably never got to here of them. Maybe I'm clutching at straws here

A bit confused? Who are playing- Kosha or Palma Violets?

I thought this review hit the nail on the head about Palma Violets...

Palma Violets - 180 Review

Interesting is the first paragraph where it talks about how the music press like to anoint a 'saviour' each year.

Palma Violets are actually pretty good. Just not AS good as the NME says!

Has anyone heard the album?

This happened with the Vaccines. They release one or two amazing all guitar rock songs and then everyone goes crazy until you step back and go, wait this isn't really anything that good.

I will say this, Best of friends and last of the summer wine were AMAZING songs from the palma violets. The third single (cool cats) was pretty s***.

There's a lot of similar groups doing the same, releasing one song and its relatively big then you hear absolutely nothing from them because in actual reality they're probably crap.

'I Found Love' off the album is a good one.
