Default Resident Evil

Talking 'bout Resident Evil, aka Biohazard. Though it's certainly had it's fair share of lows (*cough* Umbrella Corps *cough* Operation Raccoon City *cough*), it's a franchise that undoubtedly got a hell of a lot of people into gaming back in the day. Any of you fuckers got any fond memories of entering the world of survival horror? Which is your favorite entry in the series?

Personally, I think my first RE game back in the day was RE0. Unfortunately, it was way too fucking hard for my soft baby brain. I also tried Outbreak, and got massacred every time. RE4, along with the Gamecube and DS remakes of the original RE, were what really solidified my love for the series.

the first three for ps1 and outbreak are the only re games i remember playing. i think either 2 or 3 would be my favorite from that limited selection; they both scared me a bit as a kid, especially nemesis' random pop-ups in 3 and the first licker encounter in 2. i was too young to figure out any of the puzzles in the first, so i didn't get very far in that, and the copy of outbreak i rented always froze in the same specific spot

Oh god, those damn lickers were such assholes. I wasted so many herbs trying to run past them.

I never actually played RE, but I used to sit and watch my brother play the first one. I remember it being pretty scary. It was nice to be able to go make a sandwich and come back to see that he made it through a rough part.

I didn't really get into any FPS type (3PS actually) games until I checked out Half Life. I was instantly addicted, but puttered out after Max Payne and haven't really had time to get into any others since.

I was the same way with my dad and older sisters. They watched a whole bunch of movies and played a mess of games that I either never tried for myself or didn't try until I was way older.

If you ever decide that you wanna play through the first one, Capcom actually released an HD remake not long ago. It's like twelve bucks on Steam.

I'm a big fan of shooters myself, third person more so than first. If you ever want to get back into them, I recommend Red Dead Redemption. It's glorious.

Cool, thanks for the recs. If I ever get out from this pile of things going on, I'll probably check out Red Dead. I've heard good things about it since it's release.

It's one of the best. Also, I think it was one of the last games I ever bothered to pre-order (along with Fallout: New Vegas).

Anyway, if you don't mind me asking, what other games do you remember playing (or seeing people play) back in the day? Did you prefer PC or console games?

My first game was Pong, so there's a lot of ground to cover. From Q*bert and the first Castle Wolfenstein on 5.25 floppys (on my Commodore 64) to the first Leisure Suit Larry and on to Black Ops III, I've covered pretty much the entire gaming world from it's inception. There are a lot of gaps though. Big gaps.

Right now, console games are a little less work to get the hang of for me. ASWZ is a little more cumbersome than having an XBox controller. I'm used to those, and adding peripherals to a PC is a pain.

Probably cause it's ASWD.
