Longevity of a band's existence is a meaningless way to judge quality. Lots of later Cure music is awful. I shudder to think what Marr and Morrissey may be doing now if they continued together....

I like both bands. The Smiths thankfully stopped before they began to make bad music but I still prefer The Cure. Their (pre-90s) music means a lot more to me....
