I think that's a fair assessment, he is a great lyricalist in terms of his rapping ability, but I feel for the most part Illmatic's beats and samples are well...kind of boring.

I think history will bear out that Jay Z was over rated. He's smart though, he crafted the right image and like 50cent has turned himself into a multi millionaire through his various business...

I initially had a hard time getting into 2 Pac. For me a lot of it had to do with being surrounded by a culture of high energy music growing up (Punk, techno, new wave, disco, heavy metal ect ect)
